Greater Cincinnati Basketball Hall of Fame

Cincinnati Recreation Commission   Greater Cincinnati Basketball Hall of Fame   University of Cincinnati

The design for the Greater Cincinnati Basketball Hall of Fame  has two components. The first component is an 18-foot diameter inner circle located north of the walking path honoring Basketball Hall of Fame inductees from the Tri-state area. The inner circle is a place for small gatherings, and presents information about the history of the GCBHF, project background, corporate sponsors, honors Greater Cincinnati Basketball Hall of Fame inductees and George Spencer.  The flooring within the "inner circle" includes recycled rubber, and flame finished granite – surrounded by a p-gravel path matching the existing time-line path.  Names of inductees are inscribed upon (4) 6’ x 6’ panels – mechanically attached to horizontal armatures, which in turn are supported by five light/column-elements.  The inner circle serves as an outdoor gathering place and a source for ambient lighting in the evening.

The second component of the design is a “landscaped” area directly below I-471 located north of the walking time-path - referred to as "people’s court".  A series of 2” wide arcs originating from five point sources and composed throughout the park-scape, generate the "court’s” patterns, form modest retaining walls, and benches composed within a sand-set, brick-pavers.  Curvilinear arcs are composed with colors representing four Tri-state area university basketball teams - U.C., Xavier, Miami and NKU. There is space for several thousand-donor names (solicited from a capital campaign) to be etched onto a variety of elongated beige bricks throughout the “court”.  (5) circular and flat bronze plaques are mechanically attached to five alternating point-source-bollards located immediately to the south of the walking path. The “peoples court” is a park-scape – designed to complement the surrounding Sawyer Point.

The design plays on "movement" alluding to the game of basketball.  Lighting has been incorporated throughout the site for safety and security.  Accessibility and inclusion, and a contextual response in form and scale with the surrounding waterfront site are values within the proposed GCBHF.
